Events and Blackthorn Base Version Prerequisites
Blackthorn Base: To store or display push notification messages in the Navigator app’s Notification Center, the related Salesforce org must have Blackthorn Base Version 1.61 installed. Events users don’t need to upgrade Blackthorn Base unless they use the Navigator app for their Events.
Events App: Events version 5.35.3 is required to use the Event Code Authorization functionality. This version is available in the Candy Shop for those who wish to install it.

Bug Fixes
Offline Mode: The Navigator app will redirect users to the Welcome screen after the mobile device user switches it back online. Previously, when the device was back online, the app navigated to the “Magic Link and OTP” screen, bypassing the Welcome screen and disrupting workflows.
Agendas: If an Event Organizer changes a Session Attendee’s Registration Status from “Registered” to “Canceled,” the Attendee will see that the Session is unavailable in the Navigator’s Agenda and on the Session details screen. This ensures the Attendee has the most up-to-date information about their Session schedule and access. Previously, the Navigator app didn’t accurately reflect when the Session Attendee’s status was changed to "Cancelled" by continuing to show the Attendee as registered for the Session.
Switch Organizations: A Navigator app user can use the Switch organizations button to switch between orgs, regardless of whether the org contains an Event. Previously, the Switch organizations button stopped working after a user switched to an organization with no upcoming Events.
Magic Links: When a Navigator app user verifies their identity via a magic link, the verification completes successfully regardless of the app’s navigation state. Previously, the magic link verification didn’t work if the user navigated back to the "Verify your identity" screen after requesting the link.
Login Error: If a user encounters an organization-related error when accessing an Event in the Navigator app, they can click Retry or Go Back. Clicking Go Back returns the user to the Welcome screen, where they can restart the process and reenter the organization ID. Previously, the only option was to click Retry even though it would fail.
QR Codes: QR codes are no longer generated using the Event deep link format. They now use the 4-digit event code from the Event record’s Event Code field. After a Navigator app user clicks Scan Event QR Code on the Welcome screen and scans their QR code, the app uses the Event Code to direct users to the sign-in flow (OTP/Magic Link) associated with the Event.
Enhancements
Login Screen: The layout of the identity verification screen was updated to encourage Attendees to use the One-Time Password (OTP) option over the Magic Link authentication to verify their identity. The OTP option ensures a smoother verification experience for Attendees by reducing email delivery issues and improving overall login success rates.
Select an Organization: If a user doesn’t see an organization on the Select Organization screen, they can click the link at the bottom of the screen to go to a different page where they can enter their four-digit Event Code. Once a user enters a valid code, the app automatically switches to the new organization.
Info Page: This enhancement to the Info page streamlines the Attendee experience by providing a simple visual way to share Event access. Clicking the Share icon in the top-right corner of the Info tab generates a QR code that links to the Event’s organization ID. Scanning the QR code automatically directs new Attendees to the correct organization and Event via their app’s sign-in screen or to the relevant app store to download the Navigator app.
Speakers Tab: Find your Event’s Speakers faster in the Navigator app with the new dedicated Speakers tab. Browse all Event Speakers in one place and tap any Speaker to view their details instantly. Users can access the Speakers tab from the More Menu. The Speakers page lists all Speakers associated with the Event. Each Speaker’s page includes the Speaker Full Name, Company, Title, Bio, Image URL, and social media links.
Event Codes and QR Codes
The Navigator app provides two flexible Event access options: scan a QR code or manually enter an Event Code. The Event Code is a system-generated code set at the organization level and is stored in the Event record’s Event Code field. It can be shared with Attendees to allow them to access the Event in the Navigator app.
The Event Code eliminates the need for complex URLs or lengthy setup processes. You must manually add the Event Code field to your Event page layout, as package upgrades cannot automatically modify existing page layouts. Once added, the field will display your unique 4-character code. The permissions for the Event Code field are View Only for all users.
Being able to manually enter a code is particularly useful when an Attendee receives an Event Code through text, email, or verbal communication, or when visual QR codes are impractical. The interface includes helpful error messaging if an invalid or unrecognized code is entered, ensuring a smooth connection experience.
To start the authentication process to access the Navigator app, users can either click the Scan Event QR Code button to scan a QR code or click the Enter My Event Code button to go to the page where they can enter their 4-digit Event Code. The Event Code option offers a second method to enter the app, especially for those without a QR code.
Switch Organizations
If a user doesn’t see an organization on the Select Organization screen, they can click the link at the bottom of the screen to go to a different page where they can enter their four-digit Event Code. Once a user enters a valid code, the app automatically switches to the new organization.
In-App Notifications
Navigator app users can review existing notifications or view notifications they might have missed.
The Navigator’s notification center allows users to view and manage their push notification messages and history. Attendees can access the notification center by clicking the notification or Bell icon in the top-left corner of the screen. If there are unread messages, a red dot will be located on the Bell icon.
The Bell icon is visible on the following screens:
Agenda
Info
Ticket
Attendees
More
Content
Custom Tab (if available)
Clicking the Bell icon displays all the available push notification messages. Unread messages have a blue dot next to them. Messages are listed in chronological order.
When an Attendee clicks a message, one of the following will happen:
The app takes the Attendee to the Agenda page and marks the message as read. (The blue dot disappears.) Clicking the Mark All as Read button sets all messages to read.
When a user taps a notification message that includes a SessionId, they will be redirected to the corresponding Session Detail page.
If the notification message includes a SpeakerId, the Attendee is directed to the corresponding Speaker Detail page.
If a valid ID is not included in the notification message, the app will open the Notification page.
Smart Scheduler
The Smart Scheduler includes a new screen where an Event Admin can select a Session or Speaker and send a push notification about them to the Event Attendees’ Navigator apps. When an Attendee opens a push notification in the app, the app will redirect them to the relevant Session or Speaker.
Known Issue
If the Custom Content Display Location field is set to “Navigator,” the Custom Content is displayed on both the Event’s webpage and in the Navigator app. This is a known issue, and we are working on a solution.
