📋 At a glance
This month focuses on more dependable registration, with fewer missing, stuck and duplicate registrations, and introduces Kiosk Mode in early access, part of a new set of premium onsite features. It also fixes blank webinar join links, Zoom accounts that needed reauthorizing, and the nightly ROI snapshot on high-volume orgs. Event pages move to a newer framework version; if you use your own CSS or embed events on your site, see Action required.

⚠️ Action required
Take ACH payments through Stripe? Watch for instructions from us.
Stripe is retiring its legacy ACH Direct Debit integration on December 7, 2026, in favor of its newer Payment Intents integration for US bank accounts. This release includes the first part of that move. The full set of changes needed to take ACH payments everywhere you use Blackthorn lands in the November Salesforce package and webapp releases, so plan to upgrade to the November release ahead of the deadline. In the coming days, we will send detailed instructions to every Stripe customer using ACH. They explain what is changing and the steps you need to take to migrate your saved ACH payment methods, so they remain valid for recurring payments after the deadline. If you have questions about the deadline or how it affects you, reach out to your CSM or Blackthorn Support.
Using your own CSS on your event pages, or embedding an event in your own site? Re-check them after the release.
Event pages move to a newer framework version this month, following a similar move in September. How you configure an event does not change, and our own styling is updated to match. But a styling rule of yours that targets an element whose structure changed may quietly stop applying or have other unanticipated effects, with no error to tell you. Walk one event end to end at desktop and phone widths, and do the same for any event you embed.
Post Event Survey links now close when their window passes.
Post Event Survey Expiration Date sets how many days after the event ends a survey stays open, and it now applies whether or not the event is published. The default is 30 days, the maximum is 9999 (never expires), and a value of 0 closes the survey when the event ends. The field can no longer be left empty.
When you upgrade, any event with an empty Post Event Survey Expiration Date is set to 9999, so its survey stays open. But the survey change on your event pages arrives with our webapp release, which may reach you before you upgrade. Until you upgrade, a survey on an event with an empty value closes when the event ends. To avoid that gap, upgrade promptly, or set Post Event Survey Expiration Date now on any event whose survey must stay open.
Also check events that already have a short value, such as 14, whose survey you still want open, and raise it to the number of days you need, or to 9999.
Report or automate on Registered counts? Pending attendees are now counted separately.
Attendees with a Pending registration status, such as people invited off the waitlist or added by hand who haven't finished registering, are no longer included in the Registered count on events and sessions, or in Sold Quantity on tickets. They now have their own Pending count on events, tickets and sessions. Capacity is enforced the same way as before: pending attendees still hold their place.
Counts update the next time each event changes, so numbers may shift gradually after you upgrade rather than all at once. If a report, list view, Flow or integration uses Registered or Sold Quantity as a total, add Pending to it.
✨ What's new
✅ More dependable registration (Salesforce upgrade required, plus the webapp release)
When someone registers, the event page passes their registration information to Salesforce as an Event Registration Submission record, and Salesforce completes the final steps, creating the attendee and related records. This release is the first part of ongoing work to make that hand-off more reliable, so fewer registrations go missing, get stuck or are duplicated. More improvements follow in upcoming releases.
What you may notice: registrants see a "processing" message when their registration takes a little longer to complete, and a registration that can't be completed is marked Failed with a reason, so you can see it and act on it.
👥 Capacity
See who is holding a place but hasn't finished registering (Salesforce upgrade required)
The real-time counters on the Event record now show Pending Registrations alongside Registered and Waitlisted, so you can see how many people were invited off the waitlist or added by hand and haven't completed registration yet. See Action required if you report on Registered counts.
🎟️ Tickets
Set up Table & Block Ticketing in Event Builder (Salesforce upgrade required)
You can now set up Table & Block Ticketing directly in Event Builder: mark a ticket as a block ticket and set its Block Seats and Block Unit Label, instead of only on the Event Item record.
📝 Surveys
A wider Post Event Survey window (Salesforce upgrade required, plus the webapp release)
Post Event Survey expiration now defaults to 30 days and accepts up to 9999 days, which keeps a survey open indefinitely. See Action required for how the window is enforced.
📱 Navigator
A Navigator tab on the Event record (Salesforce upgrade required)
A new Navigator tab on the Event record page brings the existing Navigator settings together in one place. If your org uses a customized Event record page, add the tab yourself.
See how many licensed Navigator events you have used (Salesforce upgrade required)
The Event record now shows how many of your licensed Navigator events you have used. To confirm or change your number of licensed Navigator events, contact your Blackthorn account team.
Hide the Invite Others QR code (Salesforce upgrade required, plus the next Navigator app build)
A new Hide Navigator Invite QR Code checkbox on the event hides the Invite Others QR code in the Navigator app's Info tab. The checkbox ships in this package and takes effect with the next Navigator app build after 1.10.
🔜 Coming this month: Kiosk Mode (early access)
Kiosk Mode arrives in early access this month. It lets attendees check themselves in at a self-service station running the Mobile Check-In app, so your staff can focus on the people who need help. Kiosk Mode is part of a new set of premium onsite features designed to make check-in faster and your event day run more smoothly, with badge design and badge printing coming soon.
Early access is available on request, and requires Events 5.66 and the latest Mobile Check-In app. To learn more about Kiosk Mode and the onsite features that are right for your events, reach out to your CSM or Blackthorn Support.
🐛 What's fixed
🛒 Checkout
- State required where there are no states: Previously, registrants from countries with no state or province system, such as Singapore, could not complete checkout because the State/Province field in the billing address on the payment step was always required. Now it is required only for countries that have states or provinces. (Arrives automatically.)
- PayConex checkout failed for international registrants: Previously, registrants outside the US and Canada, such as in Australia, could not pay through PayConex at checkout when State and Country picklists were enabled. PayConex accepts only two-letter state codes, so the state sent to PayConex is now shortened to its first two letters. PayConex stores the state for reporting only, and the address saved in Salesforce is unchanged. (Requires Payments 6.70.)
- Stripe Checkout failed on certain prices: Previously, certain ticket prices caused Stripe Checkout to fail with a processing error even though the payment had been captured.
- Stuck on "Preparing your payment page": Previously, a valid Stripe payment session could be canceled during checkout. Now the error page offers a retry. (Shipped mid-cycle and already live.)
- File Upload form elements failed at checkout: Previously, uploading a file to a File Upload form element failed during checkout. (Released early, on September 8, and already live.)
⏳ Waitlist & sessions
- Invited attendee reverted to Waitlisted: Previously, a Pending attendee invited off the waitlist was reverted to Waitlisted after changing their ticket quantity, and their registration failed. Now they stay Pending and can complete registration.
- "Add All" ignored Prevent Session Overlapping: Previously, the "Add All" button appeared on the session registration page even with Prevent Session Overlapping enabled, allowing overlapping sessions to be added. Now it is hidden. (Arrives automatically.)
🌐 Event pages
- Language switch froze the page: Previously, switching languages on an event page could freeze the page. (Arrives automatically.)
🎥 Webinars
- Blank webinar join URLs: Previously, the Session Attendee webinar join URL was often blank, so session reminder emails merged in nothing, and the Register Attendees for Webinars button never processed Session Attendees. Both now work.
- Zoom accounts needed manual reauthorization: Previously, Zoom webinar accounts were not renewed by the nightly token refresh. Now they are.
🔄 Salesforce & admin
- ROI snapshot failed on large orgs: Previously, the nightly ROI snapshot job failed on orgs with high attendee volume, and snapshot no-show and waitlisted counts were always zero. Both are fixed.
- Blank attendees from Campaign Members: Previously, converting Campaign Members to attendees produced attendees with a blank name and email when the user adding them had no Blackthorn license or permission set. Now the name and email carry over.
- Mobile Check-In permissions: Previously, permission gaps prevented non-administrator users from using two Mobile Check-In paths. The packaged permission sets now include the missing access.
🛠️ Technical reference
This section is intended for Salesforce admins.
New fields
- Event · Pending, Event Item · Pending, Session · Pending (
conference360__Pending__con each), Number, calculated automatically. The count of attendees with a Pending registration status. Registered (Event, Session) and Sold Quantity (Event Item) no longer include them. - Event · Hide Navigator Invite QR Code (
conference360__Event__c.conference360__Navigator_Hide_Invite_QR__c), Checkbox, default unchecked. Hides the Invite Others QR code in the Navigator app's Info tab for this event. - Event Registration Submission · Idempotency Key (
conference360__Event_Registration_Submission__c.conference360__Idempotency_Key__c), Text (255). Lets a retried submission be recognized as the same one.
Registration processing: what admins may notice
- A registration that cannot be completed is marked Failed with a reason, and the Blackthorn | Events ERS Failed email is sent. A few rare failures, usually missing field access for the user processing the registration, used to stay in To Process with no message; they now show as Failed too, so you may see this email a little more often.
- The Blackthorn | Events ERS Failed email goes to the user who last modified the record, which for online registrations is usually the Salesforce user your event site connects as, not an admin. If you want to hear about failed registrations, make sure that user's email reaches someone on your team, or build a report or list view of Event Registration Submissions with Status Failed.
- To retry a failed registration, check Process on the record. If payment had already been sent to Blackthorn Payments, the retry stops and asks you to check the payment first. After checking it, clear the Attendee JSON field and check Process again.
- Draft records are checkouts that were started but never completed, such as abandoned checkouts. A finished registration can no longer be reverted to Draft, so a Draft record now reliably means the registrant did not finish. If a registrant says they paid but you only find a Draft record, contact Blackthorn Support. Automatic refunds in that situation remain TouchNet only.
Permission sets
Field-level security for the new fields is added across the Events permission sets. Two grants are added to close Mobile Check-In gaps for non-administrator users: Apex class access to RestOnSiteRegistrationMetadataAPI, and Edit on Session_Attendee__c.Attendance_Status2__c.
Post Event Survey expiration
The field no longer accepts an empty value. The default is 30 and the maximum is 9999. An install step sets existing empty values to 9999.
⬆️ How to upgrade
Go to the Blackthorn Candy Shop to upgrade Events to 5.66. We recommend upgrading Blackthorn Base, Payments and Events together; the Candy Shop takes you through them in the standard upgrade path. See Action required above.
