Inbound Image Messages (MMS)

Inbound image messages can contain photos/media plus text or only photos/media. If the inbound image message does NOT contain text, an email notification will not be triggered.

This is expected behavior as there is a workflow rule called “Email Owner When SMS Message Received” that is triggered only if the Message field on the SMS Message record contains text. 

To resolve this issue, clone the workflow rule and remove the first criteria. This will trigger an email notification when an inbound message contains photos/media but no text.

Object Structure

When an inbound image message with text is received, the image is saved as a Salesforce File. The File is related to the Media record which is related to the SMS Message record.
